Dana Pollock left the finance world to study shoe design at London College of Fashion, thinking she would start a footwear brand. When tasked with making a loafer by hand in her shoemaking course, she wanted to find something unique to use as the upper. She found a 12x12inch hand woven textile from Kazakhstan at a local shop, and fell in love with the incredible artistry and detail in the piece. Dana opened her eyes to the world of artisan textiles -- falling in love with the intentionality and time each work of art requires, and for how special the creation process is as each woman brings her vision to life by hand. Pollock realized she didn't want to create shoes after all (production is never close to home; it's a trend driven industry; and shoes wear down...), and she realized through her coursework that the sustainability "pillars" she stands for are products that are incredibly well-made and stand the test of time, as well as using upcycled byproduct and artisan materials.

So, Pollock switched to thinking about outerwear, which she loves just as much as shoes! She then discovered the boucherouite rug in her research, and started sampling the topcoat and bomber styles five years ago. It took lots of trial and error, as the rugs are so thick that special machinery meant for fur hides is necessary to sew them, but Dana found a wonderful small female team led by an expert pattern maker and sewer to help her figure it all out and produce her collection. Dana is based in NYC, and all pieces are designed in NoHo and sewn in the Garment District by the same small female-owned factory!
