AKKI-CHAN is made to be worn while chasing the sun. A slow resort brand that upcycles antique 100% silk kimonos.
Like kintsugi—the art of mending broken objects with gold—we turn once-lost garments into golden, one-of-a-kind aloha shirts.
Aloha shirts originally used kimono fabric!
In the 1930s, a Honolulu shop called Musa-Shiya the Shirtmaker began cutting Japanese prints into what became the iconic Hawaiian shirt.
So in a way, we’re returning to the ROOTS!—blending heritage with heart.
At AKKI-CHAN, we transform what was once a family heirloom into something new—something we hope becomes your family heirloom!
Only one shirt per kimono—each piece is truly unique.
Handmade in Japan.

Made from a vintage komon kimono, this shirt bursts with layered pattern play. Multicolored seigaiha (ocean wave) arcs ripple across the fabric, a motif of harmony, joy, and endless good luck, while a dotted kanoko print adds texture and rhythm below. Originally worn as casual chic in the Showa era.
A-2025-020
- $580
Made from a Showa-era shibori kimono (1960s–70s) — a textile defined by its labor-intensive tie-dye process, where each section is bound, dyed, and released by hand. This one bursts in leafy green with oversized, cloudlike florals outlined in classic kanoko (fawn spot) shibori.

Cut from a Showa-era komon kimono (1960s–70s), this shirt features an all-over field of stylized kiku (chrysanthemums) — scattered in soft pink, ivory, yellow, and dusty blue across a midnight base. Kiku are symbols of longevity, beauty, and imperial elegance, made approachable here through a dense, everyday repeat.
A-2025-028 - $580
Cut from a Showa-era komon kimono (1960s–70s), this shirt features a vibrant, all-over seigaiha (ocean wave) motif. The traditional pattern is reimagined here in bold lime silk, giving it an unexpected jolt of energy. Originally worn as chic everyday wear, now turned into a statement piece for modern moods.
A-2025-045 - $580
Upcycled from a Showa-era tomesode kimono — a formal garment traditionally worn by married women. The textile features a striking peacock feather motif in soft metallic ink, brushed across a jet-black silk base with bokashi (ombré) shading.
The peacock has long symbolized beauty, dignity, and protection in Japanese tradition — and when rendered this subtly, it’s all about quiet power.
